VIDEO: International Women's Day, San Antonio

Start-to-finish livestream from today’s International Women’s Day March in San Antonio, Texas.

Deceleration was proud to march today with newly minted and seasoned activists alike in the streets of downtown San Antonio for female empowerment, LGBTQIA and immigrant rights … for straight up human rights and full liberation.

This year’s banner theme read: “We are the ones we have been waiting for/Somos a quienes estábamos esperando.”

We caught up with many along the route to ask what made the day so important for them.

Pat Castillo of the P.E.A.C.E. Initiative was predictably eloquent (see 4:00 mark in first video under “On to the March” section below).

“This year is really special because it’s time for us to realize how much more power we have when we are united, when we are thinking about these things, when we are critically analyzing what is happening to our communities. And this is what happens. People come out. People are thinking and people are ready to take action, and that’s why we’re out here,” she said between chants.

Did it really take the 2016 election to activate so many?

“There’s so much trauma. There’s so much victimization. People have had it. We’re not going to take it anymore. And we’re going to struggle for everything we deserve. We’re the ones who have to do it and that’s what we’re doing here today.”
