Bird is still the word!
Join us for the 12th annual Words For Birds, a two-part event celebrating all things avian for National Poetry Month. While the current public health emergency prevents our usual in-person reading at Mitchell Lake Audubon Center, this year’s Words for Birds reading will continue in two digital spaces.
First, join Marisol Cortez, co-editor of Deceleration and member of Stone in the Stream/Roca en el Rio, for an online writing workshop held Thursday, April 30 from 6-7pm CST. The theme will be writing nature at its “edges,” where it interfaces with culture and justice. To receive a Zoom link to participate, RSVP in advance HERE.
All workshop participants will receive a hard copy of this year’s zine (eventually, once it’s safe to go out again!).
Second, our annual Words for Birds reading has become a special digital zine, which will be published to Deceleration on Thursday, April 30 (check our slider on that date). Edited by Marisol Cortez, this zine features Jim LaVilla-Havelin, Rod Carlos Rodriguez, Fernando Flores, Alicia Galvan, Rohn Bayes, and many others.
While we will miss the beautiful outdoor environs of Mitchell Lake Audubon Center, we are excited to use stay-at-home orders as an opportunity to create a collection of SA bird poetry for the community to enjoy for all time!
