La desaceleración consiste en estimular un cambio hacia una vida, unas comunidades y una cultura más sanas. Our Happening events calendar highlights lots of fun and critical (some critical and fun) San Antonio and South Texas happenings each month. For those about growing a better world, we work to direct you quickly to the most potentially transformative meetings, climate actions, skillshares, and gatherings to help facilitate the development of ever more resilient networks of common care.

Community Watch: Protect the Birds of Brackenridge

We are calling for you to be a bird protector by doing drop-in shifts to witness people hired by the city who are board-knocking, and using sounds of gunfire and explosives to terrorize native birds; these are tactics the city uses to prevent native birds from landing and nesting in the parks. We need people to show up at Brackenridge Park at 9:00 AM, 1:30 PM, 2:30 PM, 3:00 PM, 6:00 PM, and 7:00 PM. While these times are preferred, however, any time someone can show up at the park to document is appreciated! Across from the Joske Pavilion, you’ll find an open area with two unfenced bald cypress trees – this is a good checkpoint for volunteers to pause, observe, and document. These trees are central to our community’s prayers and offerings and hold deep cultural and spiritual meaning.

Mujeres is honored to stand with Yanaguana Voices in defending our sacred lands, birds and claiming our public spaces in the cross hairs of gentrification. We need your help in ensuring our native wildlife has their home! And our indigenous relatives have their sacred lands to pray.
