Let Cuba Live Film Festival

julio 27, 2024 @ 12:00 pm - 4:00 pm

We will be showing 3 films in solidarity with the achievements the Cuban Revolution has gained over time.

Oppressed Revolutionaries for Worker Power celebrates the triumph of the Cuban revolution with a Let Cuba Live Film Festival highlighting the gains made by the Cuban people in the 65 years since their victory over the cruel and corrupt, US-backed Bautista dictatorship.

The social and economic fabric of the US is tearing apart. Our government arms and protects a horrific genocide, wastes tax dollars on violence and surveillance, runs the largest prison system in world history, refuses to take measures to address climate change and is steadily reducing the democratic power of the people. Inequality is the highest it’s been since the Great Depression, thousands of families lose their housing daily, the price of necessities are unaffordable, schools are closing rapidly and our average life span is falling. Politically, we are offered candidates from two parties who are subservient to corporate demands, not the people.

What alternatives exist?

July 26, 1952, Cuban Revolutionaries attacked the Moncada Barracks to address that question – what can we do together if liberated from corporate, military and imperialist rule?

On trial for his role in the attack, Fidel Castro spoke in his own defense, later published as “History Will Absolve Me.” In the speech, he outlined many structural problems and injustices recognizable to people living in the US today.

Here, we are fed baseless propaganda of the horrible “dictatorship” in an attempt to justify the genocidal economic blockade, inclusion of Cuba on the State Sponsors of Terrorism list and US-supported terrorist acts against the Cuban people.

The Let Cuba Live Film Festival features three documentaries which depict the priorities of the revolutionary government in advancing its people and world through their literacy program (‘Maestra’), world class and internationalist health care system (‘Salud!’) and advancements in climate change adaptation and mitigation that are needed today (‘Cuba’s Life Task’,) a film directed by Dr. Helen Yaffe. Cuba’s Life Task is about the island’s 100 year Climate plan that is impressive and so needed.

Join us in commemorating this day and in displaying a show of solidarity from within the belly of the beast of TX. Cuban Food for a suggested $10 donation & Raffle gifts!
