Event Details

Cena del Corazón is an event that will raise the visibility of Boca Chica Beach, a historical coastline that reaches the mouth of the Rio Grande River. Boca Chica Beach has long served as the people’s beach, where families have gathered to enjoy and connect with nature. Unfortunately, private corporations continue to harm the fragile ecosystem there. Cena del Corazón will help us strengthen the solidarity from the Boca Chica Beach to the San Antonio River.

At Cena de Corazón, the importance of memory work, storytelling, and art as a strategic tool of resistance will be highlighted. The evening will be made up of the following:

  • Cena del Corazón, a three-course meal lovingly curated by internationally acclaimed artist & founder of Galeria E.V.A., Maestra Verónica Castillo Salas.
  • Community Screening of ENTRE’s Boca Chica, Corazón Grande and Boca Chica, a short documentary supported by PBS/Reel South.
  • Conversation with Veronica Castillo Salas, C. Díaz, Nansi Guervara, Ai Voung, and Samuel Fernandez Diaz and moderated by Monica A. Sosa. Together they will uplift the importance of this work, discuss how their creative practice challenges environmental injustices, and share ways to celebrate and protect our communities and the land from erasure. Panelist biographies included below.
  • Closing of the night with un baile y movimiento celebrating our community and cultura.

Donations towards this popup dinner will directly support Boca Chica, Corazon Grande, ENTRE’s first community archival project, and Galeria E.V.A.
