Just Transition Summit

San Antonio is in a critical moment with regards how our city will deal with the worsening climate crisis. We know that national, state and local leaders have failed protect and prepare the community in the face of a growing climate emergency. The only way forward that will begin to turn the tide is through a just transition, yet the powers that be refuse to end their dependence on the fossil fuel economy instead they plunge us deeper into climate calamity through false solutions pushed forward by the carbon market scheme.

We are calling on our community during this climate emergency to join us at the Just Transition Summit on August  26 – 28th. This will be an in person event at SWU HQ located on 1412 E. Commerce St. We are hosting this alongside our partners Climate Justice Alliance, US Directors Network, People’s Climate Innovation Center and Kapwa Consulting.

 This 2 ½ day training  is designed to dig into how to transition from an extractive economy and building the better. This will be an intimate workshop with the goal of developing deeper understanding about systems change, practices for shutting down the Spruce Coal Plant, increasing renewable energy, restructuring our public utility, creating resiliency hubs for our region and strengthening mutual aid networks.

 SWU is a founding member of Climate Justice Alliance, a national organization that is amplifying the leadership of the original Our Power Communities while expanding to 70 communities in seven regions that are home to key grassroots groups. These groups organize to end the era of extreme energy and implement a Just Transition that promotes local control of resources (including energy, land, water, and food systems).

 Let us know if you can join us. We will be practicing COVID-19 safety protocols by using masks, siting in smaller groups and spending as much time outside. We will be offering meals and childcare. To reserve your seat please fill our this form by Sunday, August 21.
