About Music for Butterflies

Zelene Suchilt immigrated to the United States from Mexico and was undocumented for 13 years. “Music for Butterflies” was born from that experience, a collection of poems aimed at the immigrant community. As if it were a bridge between the multiple identities that migrant bodies inhabit, she wanted her poetry collection to be bilingual. From our primordial identity and language to the identity and the language, one adapts to, these verses weave our shared experiences to reconcile our longing and recount the love and pain that distance reinforces.

The butterflies in the title are none other than the monarch butterfly, a symbol that represents migration and is repeated in the imagination of the author, along with her readers, she is a transnational butterfly trafficking pollen with bees. Migrants are the pollen inside sunflower seeds. We ascend with the wind and migrate. It is our destiny, the one that does not let go of us. Zelene stands firm for those who came before her and were silenced, for those who will come after her, she includes us in those links and offers us the land that sustains us. -written by @paginas_adulteradas

The Music for Butterflies EP (extended player album) complements the literature by providing a stunning soundscape to the world of the transnational butterflies that grace the first part of the book. Beautifully arranged by internationally acclaimed guitarist, Alberto Alabreda and accompanied by violinist Ernesto Llorens. Spoken word performed by the author.
