Event Details
Tree Buds Citizen Forester Training Program is sponsored by the Alamo Forest Partnership and the San Antonio Arborists Association with support from Bexar Branches Alliance. The goal is to teach citizens the basics of proper tree pruning for young trees and essential tree care in order to supplement the San Antonio Parks and Recreation Department’s tree-planting initiatives.
This opportunity on Saturday, January 7th will also help ensure the maximum survival rate of the trees at Bonnie Connor Park. By excavating the root flare of a tree, you are enabling gas exchange which is vital to the tree’s survival. It also enables volunteers to identify and prune girdling roots. Pruning the tree canopy will help prevent lower limbs of a tree that can block sunlight excessively, interfere with the flow of traffic or inhibit the growth of smaller trees, plants, and bushes.
