Info Session about Proposed Data Center Projects in San Marcos

Info Session about Proposed Data Center Projects in San Marcos

Tuesday Jan 27th, 6 - 7:30pm at Rodriguez Elementary (1481 Esplanade Pkwy)

Developers are proposing at least four data centers in Hays county. What are these new developments? What do they mean for our electrical bills, electrical grid, water supply, and the future of local residents?

Come to a presentation by Data Center Action Coalition to learn more.

• Over the past five years, areas with new data centers have seen a 267% increase in electrical bills

• The four proposed data centers here would need a total of 2.3 gigawatts of power (30x the entire city of San Marcos!)

• Data centers in Texas consume 800 gallons/ Megawatt hour. The total water consumption for these four projects would be over 44 million gallons/day

• Data centers produce very few permanent jobs (mostly just construction)

• Data centers contaminate waterways with coolants and unfilterable chemicals like PFAs

• Data center backup generators produce dangerous diesel fumes, and massive power usage creates a threat of local blackouts
