At a time when resources are scarce and all of our materials come shipped cross the planet, wrapped in plastic and made from plastic and petroleum products, artist Léo Lee decided to create in a different way. Trained as a printmaker, book artist and papermaker, they started by investigating which local plants would be viable to use to make paper. Traditional papermaking is deeply rooted in local, renewable resources. Inspired by the history in which their practice is rooted, they collaborated with unknown neighbors and sought out useful plants. As well as making paper from local plants, they investigated local and native plants that can be used to source color, as well as what might be local sources of paint binders. This research led to prints and books. There will be paper you can touch and smell. I have color in recycled plastic containers too.
