Hundreds of students from multiple downtown-area San Antonio campuses walked out of classes around 1p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2025, as part of an “open protest,” a stand “for justice, for humanity, for the future we deserve.” They gathered first at Yanaguana Gardens at Hemisfair Park before taking over city streets on a march to San Antonio’s City Hall, where several elected leaders stood in solidarity for a time before returning to a scheduled meeting indoors.

“I think all of us coming out today, you can see the passion in our hearts and in our lives. This is for generations. Not just for us, but for everybody.” — Fox Tech High School Student

President Donald’s Trump’s ramping up of deportations and the increasing threat of raids by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) were top of mind for many, with one banner declaring “No One Is Illegal on Stolen Land.” Organized by local high school students and supported by the Mujeres Marcharon Coalition, sponsors the annual International Women’s Day March, the event provided space for young speakers to raise the alarm over the range of rights being stripped away and decry punitive targeting by the Trump administration of immigrants, queer and trans youth, women, and people of color.
