With area springs going dry and reservoirs falling seriously low at Canyon Lake and elsewhere, the forecast is for another extreme summer and expanding drought across Central and West Texas.

Extreme drought has gripped the Texas Hill Country for years, taking a severe toll on lake levels at Canyon Lake. Deceleration visited last weekend to document state of water, where levels are now under 60 percent full—the lowest since the 1960s. The forecast is calling for continued drought across Central and West Texas and hotter-than-usual temps through summer 2024, heat that is being driven primarily by burning fossil fuels and deforestation around the world. — Greg Harman
