Published:

Deceleration‘s ninth broadcast for the Covid-19 era in San Antonio opens w/ a nod to International Worker’s Day and local calls for the release of the incarcerated and support for housing rights. Texas Governor Greg Abbott gets a fitting roast for his decision to send Texas back to the movies (and malls, restaurants, shops, etc.) even as this novel coronavirus deaths rise even higher. We interview Diana Lopez, executive director of Southwest Workers Union, about how the community organization is changing to meet the immediate needs of their members. And with loquats just starting to fall from the trees, we share a recipe to turn these local fruits into jams and jellies. Oh, and Nathan Spring brings in the musics. All that and news/resource updates and calls to community action.

In this period of great upheaval, Deceleration is striving to do our small part to hold community space and power. Join the conversation on Episode Nine on the original Facebook post, and please share with others who may be interested. — Greg Harman
