Golden-Cheeked Warbler Walk @ Government Canyon

April 20, 2024 @ 8:00 am - 11:00 am

Discover the fascinating world of the Golden-cheeked Warbler, a federally-listed endangered songbird that migrates to Government Canyon every Spring to nest and raise their families in the Texas Hill Country.

Participate in a guided hike led by a park ranger for a chance to observe these remarkable birds in their natural habitat. While it is advisable to bring a pair of binoculars, a limited number will be available for loan.

Please note that while efforts will be made to locate the Golden-cheeked Warbler during the hike, sightings are not guaranteed due to the unpredictable nature of wildlife.

This hike is limited to 12 participants, and check-in will be on a first-come, first-served basis. Participants must be at least 10 years old, and minors must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. Pets are not permitted on the hike.

Expect approximately a 3.5-mile hike with varying elevations and rocky terrain. Registration is not required, but regular entrance fees to the Natural Area apply. To expedite entry, it is recommended to pre-purchase and print a day pass. However, please be aware that reserving a Day Pass does not guarantee a spot on the hike.

This public program is suitable for individuals or families. For group arrangements, please contact the Park Interpreter at Lisa.Cole@tpwd.texas.gov.

The meeting point is near the Rainwater Towers at the Visitor Center. Dress appropriately for outdoor hiking with layers, comfortable footwear, sunscreen, and a hat. Each participant should bring at least 2 liters of water and a snack.

Please note that this program is weather-dependent and may be subject to cancellation. For updates on trail conditions, contact GCSNA’s main office at 210-688-9055, or refer to the GCSNA webpage, Instagram, or Facebook.
