First Saturday Guided Hike
Learn about the flora, fauna, and natural and cultural history of Government Canyon State Natural Area from knowledgeable guides. The length of the hike and interpretive topic(s) will vary depending on the group. Open to ages 12 and above; participants under 18 years of age must be accompanied by a parent or guardian; no pets, please. Reservations are required! Registration opens at 8:00 AM on Saturday two weeks prior to the event and closes at noon the Thursday before the event. Click the ticket link for more information and to register. Though the outing is free, Natural Area entrance fees apply. Pre-purchasing a day pass is encouraged.
When & Where to Meet: Meet at the rainwater harvesting tower at the Visitor Center.
The Natural Area can be very busy! The Natural Area front gates open at 7:00 AM; plan to be at the Visitor Center and ready to go no later than 7:45 AM.
What to Wear & Bring: Dress for hiking outdoors; sunscreen and a hat are recommended. Wear sturdy footwear for hiking over rough terrain. Bring two liters of water per person, and a snack.
